Alcantara vS Burnes

On September 14 at Chase Field, the Diamondbacks came back to beat the Marlins 8–7 on a Corbin Carroll walk-off homer. I was there to evaluate the two starters, Corbin Burnes and Sandy Alcantara.

Burnes was making his second start back from elbow surgery. His velocity was down about two ticks, and he left his cutter up in the zone. Both homers he allowed came on those mistakes, though he still got 14 whiffs and didn’t walk anyone.

Each pitcher has a game evaluation of what I saw in person, paired with 2026 Baseball Savant data on arsenal shape, velocity and how each pitch performed. The Standouts section up top flags anything that broke from his norm.
